Traveling With Children

  • Are there vaccines or medications for international travel?

There are specific vaccines and/or medications for travelling to different parts of the world.

If you and your child are travelling outside of the United States, please call our triage nurses.

Depending on where you and your family are travelling to, we may need to see you in our clinic or refer you to either Children’s Mercy Healthy Departures Clinic at 816-802-1100, or the Travel and Immunization clinic at 913-469-0011. Some vaccines and medications need to be started at least 6 weeks prior to travelling.

  • Flying with children.

It is advisable to take your child’s immunization record with the date of birth whenever your child is flying or travelling. Please visit your airline’s website for travel guidelines specific to your flights.

Please make sure your child has contact information for all adults travelling with them.

Medications should be labeled and in original boxes or bottles, and all prescriptions should have legible labels. Confirm required documentation needed for specific areas of travel.
