ADHD
What is ADHD?
ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder can present as an attention or behavioral disturbance, inability to function on a daily basis, difficulty focusing, impulsive behavior, or poor self control. It can also impact learning as well as cause problems at home and in social situations.
When should I bring my child in for an evaluation?
If you or your child’s teachers notice an inability to focus or pay attention to pertinent details, please call our triage nurses for information about having your child evaluated. We will discuss your concerns with your physician and determine the next steps, which may include a specialist referral or evaluation by your physician.
What is the treatment for ADHD?
A balanced treatment plan for ADHD can include talk therapy, behavioral, medication, or social skills training. Your child’s school should help create a specific learning plan. Some children can benefit from medication; however, these can have side effects and should be discussed and closely monitored by your child’s physician, with scheduled follow up visits.
ADHD Medication Management
If your child is placed on ADHD medication, they will be required to see their physician at least every six months, once yearly for a well child exam and an additional medication check.
